Zelensky Looks to Biden for Support on War Ending “Victory Plan”

Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky expressed optimism on Friday that U.S. President Joe Biden will back his initiative to bring an end to the ongoing conflict with Russia. As he prepares for a trip to Washington, Zelensky plans to unveil his “victory plan,” aimed at halting the fighting that has claimed countless lives.

During a press conference alongside EU chief Ursula von der Leyen in Kyiv, Zelensky stated, “I really hope that he will support this plan.” He explained that the proposal outlines critical decisions that need to be made between October and December, emphasizing, “We would like that very much. Then we believe that the plan will work.”

Zelensky’s presentation comes after a summer marked by intense battles, with Russian forces making advances in eastern Ukraine while Kyiv manages to retain control over parts of the Kursk region. In addition to meeting with Biden, Zelensky is expected to engage with Vice President Kamala Harris and has plans to connect with her Republican challenger, Donald Trump.

Looking ahead, Zelensky has indicated his desire to host an international peace summit in November, where he will share his vision for ending the war and invite Russia to participate. Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin has stated that Moscow will only consider peace talks if Ukraine agrees to surrender four regions under its control.
