In a bid to clear up outstanding payments, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has instructed the immediate settlement of the electricity bill owed to the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) by the State House. This directive comes in the wake of a thorough reconciliation of accounts between the State House Management and AEDC.
Contrary to earlier assertions by AEDC in paid advertisements totaling N923 million in debt, records show that the actual outstanding bill stands at N342,352,217.46. This figure was disclosed in a letter addressed to the State House Permanent Secretary from AEDC management on February 14, 2024.
With both parties satisfied with the reconciliation process, the Chief of Staff to the President, Rt Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, has guaranteed that the debt will be settled before the week’s end.
Furthermore, in a move to set a precedent, the Chief of Staff has urged other Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to follow suit by reconciling their accounts with AEDC and ensuring prompt payment of their electricity bills.
