Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts among key stakeholders to end the illegitimate sit-at-home order in Southeast Nigeria. During an operational visit to the 14 Brigade Nigerian Army (NA), Goodluck Ebele Jonathan (GEJ) Barracks in Ohafia, Abia State, he reiterated that involving all stakeholders in the socio-economically active region would restore normalcy and promote economic growth.
In a statement from Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, the Director of Army Public Relations, Lieutenant General Lagbaja appreciated the Abia State Government for its significant support to the Nigerian Army in the state. He assured the state government of continued support under his leadership to address security concerns and maintain peace.
Governor Alex Otti of Abia State expressed gratitude to the Nigerian Army, sister services, and other security agencies for their collective efforts in addressing security threats. He acknowledged the positive impact on reducing insurgency in the state and the entire South Eastern region, attributing the relative calmness to the introduction of Operation CRUSH.
During his visit to the Headquarters 14 Brigade Ohafia, General Lagbaja urged the troops to ensure the restoration of peace in troubled areas, emphasizing the importance of rebuilding public confidence for citizens to conduct their normal businesses without fear. He pledged that ongoing infrastructure development within NA formations would also benefit the GEJ Barracks.
The Army Chief directed the troops to remain resolute in their operational tasks, stay loyal to the President, Commander-in-Chief, and uphold the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. He emphasized adherence to rules of engagement, respect for fundamental human rights, and maintaining professionalism in line with global best practices. General Lagbaja assured the troops that the Nigerian Government has provided significant support to the NA and pledged to prioritize their welfare under his leadership.
