Senator Alli Calls for Investigation into Ibadan Stampede That Claimed 32 Lives

The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Electoral Matters, Barrister Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli, has urged the Oyo State Government to launch a thorough investigation into the tragic stampede that claimed the lives of 32 children in Ibadan.

The lawmaker, representing the Oyo South Senatorial District, made the call in a statement issued on Thursday, following the incident that occurred during a children’s carnival at Islamic High School, Bashorun, Ibadan. The event was organized by Naomi Silekunola, an estranged wife of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi.

Describing the incident as deeply unfortunate, Alli expressed profound sorrow over the loss of young lives. The statement, signed by his Special Adviser on Media, Akeem Abas, conveyed the senator’s condolences to the affected families and urged the state government to act swiftly to uncover the cause of the tragedy.

“I extend my deepest sympathies to the families of the victims and wish the injured a quick recovery,” Alli stated. “The Oyo State Government must investigate the circumstances surrounding this tragedy and hold accountable anyone whose negligence led to this loss of lives.”

He also called on relevant authorities to ensure that adequate medical care is provided for those injured during the stampede.

Alli’s statement reflects growing concerns about safety protocols and crowd management at public events in the state. The senator emphasized the need for stringent measures to prevent a recurrence of such incidents.

As the community mourns the loss, calls for accountability and improved safety standards are likely to shape the state’s response to this tragic event.
