Rivers State Governor Suspends Akuku-Toru LGA Chairman

PORT HARCOURT: Rivers State Governor Sir Siminalayi Fubara has suspended Hon. Otonye Briggs, the Caretaker Committee Chairman of Akuku-Toru Local Government Area. In a swift move, the governor appointed Hon. Bitebobo Nelson Amieye as his replacement.

While the state government has not publicly disclosed the reasons for Briggs’ suspension, sources suggest it stems from his failure to implement empowerment programs for residents in his local government area. The governor has emphasized the need for all Caretaker Committee chairmen and their members to initiate such programs to benefit his supporters across the state.

Reports indicate that unlike other LGA chairmen, the Akuku-Toru team has not executed any empowerment initiatives as directed. Governor Fubara has instructed Briggs to hand over all council properties to Amieye.
