President Tinubu Names Major Roads in Abuja’s Guzape Area After Chinua Achebe

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has honored Nigeria’s renowned novelist and poet, Chinua Achebe, by naming newly commissioned major roads in the Guzape area of the Federal Capital Territory after him. The announcement was made during the inauguration of the Engineering Infrastructure in Guzape District Lots I & II on Saturday in Abuja.

The renaming comes at the behest of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, who requested that significant roads in the district be named after Achebe and another literary giant, JP Clark. During the ceremony, President Tinubu formally endorsed the request, saying, “Minister for FCT, the Chinua Achebe Road and the JP Clarks Road are hereby commissioned. We accept your request.”

Minister Wike, in his appeal, emphasized the significance of honoring these literary icons by associating their names with prominent locations in the capital. He also mentioned that the ‘diplomatic area’ in Guzape District is slated for completion within the next year, signaling ongoing development in the region.

Chinua Achebe, who passed away in 2013 at the age of 83, is celebrated as one of the pioneers of modern African literature. His influential works, such as “Things Fall Apart,” have left a lasting legacy in the literary world and continue to inspire readers globally.

The naming of these roads after Achebe and Clark serves as a tribute to their contributions to Nigerian and African literature, and it underscores the importance of recognizing cultural and literary achievements in the nation’s capital.
