The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) continued its vigorous campaign across Edo North, making significant strides in Fugar, Etsako Central, and Agbede, Etsako West. The party witnessed a surge of support as hundreds of All Progressives Congress (APC) members defected to join the PDP at both locations.
Governor Godwin Obaseki expressed his amazement at the unprecedented turnout, praising the people of Etsako Central for their enthusiasm despite the local government’s relatively small size. He acknowledged their participation in the ongoing voter registration exercise, which has bolstered Etsako Central’s electoral influence.
Obaseki highlighted the potential for utilizing a gas pipeline that runs through Etsako Central, with plans to generate electricity for the community. He lauded Asue Ighodalo as a “Chief Master Planner,” noting his strategic vision for advancing Edo State’s progress and prosperity.
In his address, Ighodalo commended the achievements of the Obaseki administration in areas such as education, workers’ welfare, infrastructure, and healthcare. He pledged to build on these accomplishments, aiming to eradicate poverty, create wealth, and ensure good governance. Ighodalo called for a strong turnout on election day to support the PDP.
Chief Mike Ogiadomeh, a prominent PDP figure and former Chief of Staff to President Goodluck Jonathan, set a positive tone at the Fugar Open Field, welcoming Obaseki and the campaign team. He praised the Obaseki-led administration for its contributions to Etsako Central.
Another key party figure, Barr. Pascal Ugbome, praised Ighodalo and Osarodion Ogie as a dynamic duo capable of elevating Edo State to new heights. Hon. Matthew Iduoriyekemwen, Director General of the Asue Ogie Campaign Council, dismissed the APC as a viable option for progress, urging voters to support the PDP and embrace continuity.
State PDP Chairman Dr. Tony Aziegbemi encouraged voters to turn out in large numbers for the September 21 elections and expressed gratitude for the party’s support. He also called on Chief Dan Orbih, the leader of the Legacy PDP, to return to the party.
In Agbede, the campaign was met with an enthusiastic crowd, who welcomed Obaseki and his team warmly despite the late hour. Abudu Makoh, who led over 200 APC members to the PDP, cited Obaseki’s impressive record and ongoing projects in Agbede as reasons for their defection. He assured that the new PDP members would support the party and protect their votes on election day.
