NNPCL to Privatize Warri and Kaduna Refineries to Boost Efficiency

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has unveiled plans to hand over the operations and maintenance of the Warri Refining and Petrochemical Company (WRPC) and the Kaduna Refining and Petrochemical Company (KRPC) to private operators. This initiative aims to improve the management and performance of these key facilities by engaging experienced and reputable Operations and Maintenance (O&M) companies.

The Warri Refinery, situated in Delta State and commissioned in 1978, features a complex conversion unit with a distillation capacity of 6.25 million metric tons per annum, which equates to 125,000 barrels per day. In addition to its refining capabilities, the plant includes a petrochemical facility launched in 1988, which produces 13,000 metric tons annually of polypropylene and 18,000 metric tons of carbon black. This refinery plays a crucial role in supplying petroleum products to markets in Nigeria’s southern and southwestern regions.

NNPCL’s decision to privatize these operations reflects its commitment to enhancing the efficiency and output of Nigeria’s refining sector through private sector involvement and investment.
