Lagos State Government Warns of Imminent Building Collapse at Mopol 20 Barracks

The Lagos State Government has raised concerns about a potential building collapse at the Mopol 20 Barracks in Onigbongbo, Ikeja. In response, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) is preparing for an emergency evacuation and demolition of the old Block 3 section of the barracks.

In a statement released on Wednesday, LASEMA’s Permanent Secretary, Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, revealed that an assessment of the building identified serious structural issues. To prevent any loss of life or damage to property, the agency has ordered the immediate evacuation of the building and adjacent structures.

Oke-Osanyintolu stated, “Our response team found that both the building and nearby structures must be evacuated without delay. We are implementing a response plan that includes assessment, safe and orderly evacuation, and controlled demolition.”

Under the leadership of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, the agency is taking these preemptive measures due to the building’s precarious condition and the risk of further incidents if left unaddressed.

He urged the public to remain calm and to avoid spreading misinformation on social media, assuring them that the situation is being closely monitored and managed.
