The Labour Party (LP) in Edo State has revealed its campaign council for the forthcoming governorship election slated for September 21. Led by Rev. Sam Omede as Director-General and Dr. Ehikioya Agboga as Deputy, the council is set to be inaugurated on May 13.
The announcement, made by State Chairman Mr. Kelly Ogbaloi at the party’s Benin secretariat, came after a stakeholders’ meeting involving senatorial and local government leaders from across the state’s 18 local government areas.
Among the council members are Sen. Ned Imasuen representing Edo South, along with Reps Esosa Iyawe and Murphy Osaro Omoruyi from Oredo and Egor/Ikpoba Okha federal constituencies, respectively.
Ogbaloi emphasized the selection of individuals with impeccable character for both the State Campaign Council and local government campaign committees, stressing the importance of preparation for the upcoming election.
He urged members to utilize the upcoming new voters’ registration exercise to expand the voter base and ensure broader participation in the electoral process. Additionally, Ogbaloi announced the suspension of the party’s youth leader, Mr. Ken Omusi, for anti-party activities, appointing Dan Ero from Oredo local government as his replacement.
While mentioning the lifting of suspensions for some members, excluding Ken Omusi, Ogbaloi highlighted the formation of a reconciliation committee to foster peace among aggrieved party members ahead of the election.
