Kano State Governor Approves Key Appointments and Redeployments of Officials

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has announced a series of new appointments and redeployments across key government agencies and advisory roles. The changes, aimed at strengthening governance and service delivery, were disclosed in a press statement issued by the Governor’s spokesperson, Mr. Sanusi Bature.

The announcement includes the appointment of Dr. Ibrahim Musa, a renowned public health expert and hematologist from Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital (AKTH), as the Governor’s Personal Physician and Special Adviser on Health Services. This strategic appointment underscores the Governor’s focus on healthcare reforms in the state.

Dr. Hadiza Lawan Ahmad was named the Special Adviser on Investment and Public-Private Partnerships, a move that signals the government’s commitment to fostering economic growth and attracting private sector investments. In a unique addition, celebrated Kannywood actor Sani Musa Danja has been appointed as the Special Adviser on Youth and Sports, highlighting the administration’s focus on engaging youth and promoting sports development.

Other key appointments include Barrister Aminu Hussain as Special Adviser on Justice and Constitutional Matters, Dr. Ismail Lawan Suleiman as Special Adviser on Population, and Nasiru Isa Jarma as Special Adviser on NGOs.

The Governor also made notable changes in the educational sector. Wada Ibrahim Daho was appointed Permanent Commissioner 1 of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), while Ado Danjummai Wudil will now lead the Guidance and Counselling Board as its Executive Secretary. Dr. Binta Abubakar has been named Executive Secretary of the Agency for Mass Education, reinforcing the administration’s emphasis on educational reform.

In addition, Abubakar Ahmad Bichi has been appointed Director General of the Cottage and Street Hawking Agency, a role that will tackle street hawking and promote youth empowerment. Dr. Yusuf Ya’u Gambo will serve as Executive Chairman of Strategic Governance and Policy Coordination, while Abdullahi Yaryasa joins the Assembly Service Commission as a member.

Political officeholders have also been reassigned. Kabiru Getso Haruna will now serve as the Executive Secretary of the State Scholarship Board, Rabi’u Saleh Gwarzo has been appointed Executive Secretary of the Kano State Senior Secondary Schools Management Board (KSSSSMB), and Dr. Kabiru Ado Zakirai is the new Executive Secretary of the Kano State Library Board. Dr. Abubakar Musa Yakubu has been named Medical Director of the Government House Clinic.

Other appointments include Yusuf Jibrin as Special Adviser on Students’ Matters, Isa Musa Kumurya as Special Adviser on Marshals, Hajia Fatima Abubakar Amneef as Special Adviser on Enlightenment and Social Mobilization, and Nura Iro Ma’aji as Special Adviser on Employment.

According to Mr. Bature, all appointments and reassignments take immediate effect. This reshuffle is expected to bolster the administration’s efforts in delivering effective governance and addressing the state’s pressing developmental challenges.
