Imo State Police Chief Condemns Attack on Officers and Civilian, Vows Justice

The Commissioner of Police in Imo State, CP Aboki Danjuma, has condemned the recent attack and murder of four police operatives and a civilian by gunmen suspected to be members of the proscribed IPOB/ESN. The commissioner has deployed tactical units to apprehend those responsible for the heinous act.

The ambush occurred while the police officers were on routine patrol at Irete along the Owerri-Onitsha express road. During the attack, a civilian was also fatally struck in the ensuing gun battle.

According to a statement from ASP Henry Okoye, the Police Public Relations Officer for the Imo State Command, CP Danjuma immediately mobilized to the scene for an on-the-spot assessment. The lifeless bodies of the deceased were evacuated and deposited at the mortuary, while the injured civilian was rushed to a nearby hospital and is currently responding to treatment.

CP Danjuma expressed deep sorrow over the incident, vowing that the command would ensure the perpetrators are arrested and brought to justice. “The miscreants responsible for the senseless attack have murdered peace,” he stated. He emphasized that the tragic event serves as a painful reminder of the daily risks and sacrifices police officers make in their unwavering commitment to public safety.

The commissioner extended his condolences to the families of the deceased, praying for the repose of their souls. He also called on the public, especially residents of Ogbakwu, to assist the police with any information that could lead to the apprehension of the attackers.
