Governor Zulum Commends President Tinubu’s Backing for South Chad Irrigation Project to Enhance Food Security

Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Zulum, has praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s endorsement of the South Chad irrigation project, citing its potential to bolster food security across Nigeria. Governor Zulum conveyed his appreciation during a meeting with President Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, underscoring the significance of reviving the irrigation scheme amidst relative peace in Borno State.

Highlighting the project’s capacity to address food needs in northern Nigeria and beyond, Governor Zulum emphasized the importance of re-establishing the South Chad irrigation project, which faced setbacks due to insecurity over the past decade. Additionally, he discussed plans to revive the Yauri irrigation scheme in Borno State to further ensure food security.

Furthermore, Governor Zulum disclosed President Tinubu’s commitment to enhancing security in the Lake Chad Basin, including the possibility of establishing a security outfit. The Governor also reiterated efforts to resume the repatriation of Nigerians from neighboring countries, with President Tinubu’s assurance of government support.

Moreover, Governor Zulum announced President Tinubu’s approval for the immediate commencement of the Federal College of Education, Gwoza, fulfilling a long-awaited aspiration for the people of Borno State.
