Governor Adeleke Presents Bond Cheques Worth Nearly N2 Billion to Osun Pensioners

Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has reaffirmed his commitment to the welfare of pensioners by presenting bond cheques amounting to N1,999,908,887.33 to contributory pensioners in the state. The presentation, which took place on Monday during a labour event marking his second anniversary in office, was a significant gesture of appreciation for the senior citizens who have contributed to the state’s development.

The governor highlighted that these newly issued bond cheques were part of a broader effort to settle pension arrears. In addition to the N1.99 billion, Governor Adeleke noted that his administration had already paid over N22.67 billion to state pensioners and N25 billion to local government retirees, totaling more than N47 billion over the past two years. This marks a substantial achievement in the state’s ongoing efforts to address pension-related issues.

Adeleke emphasized that his administration was deeply committed to ensuring that the contributions of pensioners, both at the state and local government levels, were honored. He described the bond cheques as part of the government’s efforts to provide retirees with the dignity and care they deserve after years of service. “It is my privilege to address our senior citizens today, and as we fulfill our obligations, we want to reaffirm our commitment to their care and well-being,” he said.

From the outset of his tenure, Governor Adeleke made it clear that addressing pension issues was a top priority for his administration. He reiterated this commitment during his speech, stressing that pensioners, who have dedicated their lives to the state, deserve due attention and support. He further pledged to resolve individual challenges within the pension sector, ensuring that retirees receive their benefits without undue stress.

The governor also revealed that his administration was working to streamline and standardize pension administration across the state, emphasizing the importance of treating pensioners with dignity. “Our commitment to making life easier for retirees, especially in terms of healthcare, is not a political maneuver, but a genuine effort to do the right thing,” Adeleke asserted.

In addition to pension payments, Governor Adeleke introduced a life-changing policy that has seen pensioners enrolled in a health insurance scheme, facilitating better access to healthcare services for the elderly. The governor noted that while there is still more work to be done, his administration had made a strong start in improving the lives of retirees, offering both financial and healthcare support.

Adeleke also pointed out that the current administration had surpassed the pension settlements made in the past, noting that the N47 billion paid in just two years far exceeded the N34 billion disbursed by previous administrations over twelve years. He thanked the pensioners for their dedicated service to the state and reiterated his promise to ensure that the welfare of current workers remains a central part of his administration’s priorities.

In closing, Governor Adeleke assured the people of Osun that pensioners would continue to receive the attention and care they deserve, as his government remains committed to their well-being and dignity.
