FUNAAB Student Christiana Idowu Reportedly Murdered by Kidnappers

Christiana Idowu, a student from the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) who was abducted between Ikorodu and Yaba in Lagos State, has been reported murdered by her captors. The Student Union Government President of FUNAAB, Ibrahim Adeyemi, confirmed the tragic news during a telephone conversation with our correspondent on Thursday.

Adeyemi stated, “The Union can confirm that she was reportedly killed by her abductor. We will be addressing the matter soon.”

On August 26, a family source revealed that the kidnappers had initially demanded a ransom of N3 million for Christiana’s release. The student had been on her way from her home in the Itaoluwo area of Ikorodu to the University of Lagos, where she was undertaking industrial training, when she was abducted.

According to the source, after Christiana became unreachable, the abductors contacted her family through her phone, demanding N3 million for her release. Despite the family’s pleas, the kidnappers eventually agreed to a reduced ransom of N350,000, which the family paid. However, Christiana was not released following the payment.

In a now-viral post on X, a user with the handle @letter_to_jack shared that intelligence operatives were able to trace the kidnapper’s location through the Bank Verification Number (BVN) and account details used to collect the ransom. The post detailed that by August 29, operatives had confirmed the identity of the account owner linked to the ransom transactions and tracked withdrawals made from the account before it was locked by the betting company.

Further investigation led the operatives to a location in Ikorodu, Lagos State, where the suspect, with known connections to Christiana via social media, was found. Tracking of the suspect’s cell phone activities and text messages eventually led operatives to his parent’s house in Ikorodu.

Attempts to contact Christiana’s family for a response were unsuccessful, as calls and messages went unanswered at the time of this report. Additionally, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, did not respond to messages or calls from our correspondent.
