The Esan4OsadebeHouse2024Team has rallied the Esan community to cast their votes for Dr. Asue Ighodalo, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, in the forthcoming Edo State governorship election. This call was made in a communiqué issued by Patrick Okpebholo, the group’s coordinator, following an emergency meeting held in Benin, the state capital.
Okpebholo emphasized the importance of unity among the Esan people to prevent the fragmentation of their votes. He described this election as a pivotal moment for the Esan community, presenting a unique chance to elect a governor from their own ranks in Dr. Ighodalo.
He cautioned against letting emotions guide their decisions, which could jeopardize their collective aspirations. “We, the Esan people, are at a crucial point in our history,” Okpebholo stated. “The upcoming election offers us a rare opportunity to elect a candidate who has shown genuine respect and commitment to our welfare. However, division and vote-splitting could undermine our progress.”
Okpebholo stressed that if the community’s support becomes fragmented, it could inadvertently aid opposing forces and delay future opportunities for Esan to produce a gubernatorial candidate. He urged everyone to consolidate their resources, energies, and votes to secure Ighodalo’s victory, asserting, “This is our moment and we must seize it.”
The Edo State governorship election is scheduled for September 21, 2024.
