Ebonyi Governor Warns Workers of Immediate Dismissal for Strike Participation Amid NLC Action
Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, has issued a strong warning to public sector workers in the state, threatening them with immediate dismissal if they engage in the ongoing strike called by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC). The governor made the announcement during a press briefing held at the New Government House in Abakaliki, the state capital.
The warning comes in direct response to the NLC’s call for a nationwide strike in states that have yet to implement the new N70,000 minimum wage. However, Governor Nwifuru was quick to clarify that Ebonyi State has already complied with the new wage structure. He noted that the state’s recent adjustment was not a salary increase, but rather an adjustment to the existing minimum wage.
“I have worked closely with the Ebonyi NLC since assuming office, and I have always sought to ensure the welfare of our workers. My administration has made every effort to create an environment where workers are happy,” Governor Nwifuru stated during the briefing.
The governor’s warning signals his firm stance on the matter and highlights the state’s commitment to upholding the new minimum wage.
