A court ruling has dismissed a legal challenge against the qualifications of candidates Aiyedatiwa and Adelami, who emerged from the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election. The case, filed by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and former Deputy Governor Agboola Ajayi, was rejected by the court on the grounds that neither the PDP nor Ajayi had standing to contest the matter.
In a landmark judgment, Justice Adegoke stated that the two plaintiffs were not aspirants in the APC primary that produced Aiyedatiwa and Adelami as the party’s candidates. He emphasized that this lack of participation in the primary meant they had no legal basis to challenge the validity of the candidates’ qualifications.
The judge further clarified that the court lacked jurisdiction to entertain the case and, as a result, dismissed the suit in its entirety. With this ruling, the court resolved all issues in favor of the defendants, thereby affirming the legitimacy of the APC candidates and bringing an end to the legal proceedings.
The decision has significant implications for future political challenges, highlighting the importance of standing in legal cases related to party elections and candidacy qualifications.
