Abia State Task Force Evacuates Beggars and Destitutes from Bata Junction

The Abia State Harmonized Task Force (ABSHT) has evacuated beggars and destitutes from Bata Junction in Aba South LGA, addressing concerns about their impact on local safety and traffic. The operation was led by Mr. Uchechukwu Wogu, the mayor of Aba South.

In an official statement released on Tuesday, ABSHT detailed the process of relocating these individuals. Those of foreign origin have been handed over to the Nigerian Immigration Service. Nigerian beggars were returned to their respective communities and placed under the care of their community heads, while others were taken to a rehabilitation center.

“These destitute beggars have been constituting a nuisance in the area and causing random accidents, hence the need for their evacuation,” the statement explained. It emphasized the goal of restoring order and safety to the streets, in line with the state government’s earlier directive to curb activities that obstruct traffic and movement.

The ABSHT remains committed to maintaining the free flow of traffic and reducing unnecessary obstructions in the environment, working towards a safer and more orderly Abia State.
