TotalEnergies CAF Futsal AFCON 2024 Draw Set for March 7 in Rabat, Morocco

The official draw for the TotalEnergies CAF Futsal AFCON 2024 is scheduled to take place on Thursday, March 7, at the Mohamed VI Sports Complex in Rabat, Morocco. The event, organized by CAF, will kick off at 17:00 local time (15:00 GMT).

Celebrating its 7th edition, the fast-paced TotalEnergies CAF Futsal AFCON will return with matches scheduled from April 11 to 21, 2024, hosted at the Moulay Prince Abdallah and IBN Yassine Halls in Morocco.

Morocco, as the defending champions and hosts, secures the A1 seeding. Other participating nations include Egypt, Angola, Mauritania, Namibia, Ghana, Zambia, and Libya. The draw will determine the composition of two groups, each comprising four teams.

Egypt holds the record as the most successful nation in TotalEnergies CAF Futsal AFCON, boasting three titles, followed by Morocco with two titles. Libya clinched one gold medal as hosts in 2008.

The tournament will adopt a round-robin format, featuring groups A and B. The top two teams from each group will advance to the semi-finals.

Moreover, the TotalEnergies CAF Futsal AFCON will serve as a qualifier for the FIFA Futsal World Cup. The top three finishers will earn spots in the global event scheduled to take place in Uzbekistan from September 14 to October 6, 2024.

Futsal, a variant of association football, is played on a smaller, hard court, mainly indoors. It emphasizes skill, speed, and creativity, gaining popularity as a unique and exciting form of football.

The Futsal World Cup, like its African counterpart, is held every four years, serving as a major event for futsal enthusiasts and providing a stage for the best players to compete at the highest level.
