Looking back, the CAF African Schools Football Championship (ASFC) commenced with great enthusiasm at the Stade Cheikha Ould Boïdiya in Nouakchott, Mauritania, this past weekend. The event is part of the ongoing CAF African Schools Football Championship qualifiers, hosted by the WAFU A CAF Zonal Union.

This tournament, unique in global football, marks its second season after a successful debut in 2022/23, which reached nearly 800,000 school-going boys and girls across Africa. Currently, five nations are vying for the WAFU A ticket to the Finals, with the winners in both boys and girls divisions set to be decided in the finals scheduled for Monday, March 3.

Prior to the tournament’s commencement, CAF, in line with its goal of empowering future African leaders, conducted various workshops aimed at learners and educators. These workshops included a CAF-accredited D License coaching course, Young Medical Officers Workshop, Young Reporters Workshop, Young Referees Workshop, and a CAF Safeguarding workshop. These initiatives were designed to equip educators with the necessary skills to create a safe and supportive environment for football development.

The tournament has commenced with great success, showcasing the talent of youth footballers over the next three days. Aspiring footballers are utilizing the platform provided by CAF to exhibit their skills and potential for the future.
