SPRINGBOK BONGI MBONAMBI FACES LENGTHY SIDELINE

Bongi Mbonambi, the victorious Springbok from the 2019 and 2023 Rugby World Cups, may face an extended absence from the field due to a knee injury, as revealed by Sharks coach John Plumtree on November 15.

The 32-year-old hooker sustained the injury during the World Cup final triumph over New Zealand in Paris last month, compelling him to exit the field prematurely. The setback is anticipated to sideline him for a minimum of six months.

This unfortunate development coincides with a challenging beginning to the season for the Durban-based Sharks, who experienced defeats in all four games during the United Rugby Championship tour of Europe.

The timing is significant as South Africa’s next scheduled match is in July 2024 when they host Ireland.
