Senator John Owan Enoh, Minister for Sports Development, commends Team Nigeria’s outstanding achievement in the recently concluded 13th All African Games held in Accra, Ghana. Nigeria clinched the overall second position, amassing an impressive total of 121 medals, including 47 gold, 33 silver, and 41 bronze medals.

Addressing the press at the media center of the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja, Senator Enoh attributed the remarkable success to the establishment of a high-performance center in Port Harcourt, ensuring athletes were in peak condition for the games.

Furthermore, Senator Enoh highlighted the ministry’s commitment to financial prudence, accountability, and transparency. Through collaboration with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), timely and direct payment of games and camp allowances to athletes has been guaranteed, putting an end to instances of athletes being shortchanged.

These policies encompass initiatives to support both active and retired sportsmen, enhance funding and infrastructure development, and revitalize grassroots sports through school programs. Additionally, there is a strategic focus on positioning sports as a viable business, offering athletes a means of livelihood while generating revenue for the government.
