Substitute Mikel Oyarzabal scored four minutes from time to secure Spain’s 2-1 victory over England in the Euro 2024 final, earning Spain a record fourth European championship. The thrilling match took place at the Olympiastadion in Berlin, Germany.
England started the match with Harry Kane leading the attack, supported by Bukayo Saka and Jude Bellingham on the flanks. Spain’s front line was led by Alvaro Morata, with Lamine Yamal and Nico Williams on the wings.

The first half was a cautious affair, with Spain dominating possession but England registering the only shot on target. The score remained 0-0 at halftime.
Spain wasted no time in the second half, breaking the deadlock just two minutes after the restart. Teenager Yamal found space on the right and delivered a cross to Williams, who slotted home to give Spain the lead.

Spain continued to press, aiming to extend their lead as England’s defense struggled. In response, England manager Gareth Southgate substituted Ollie Watkins for the ineffective Harry Kane after an hour. Ten minutes later, Cole Palmer replaced midfielder Kobbie Mainoo.
The changes quickly paid off. Saka’s brilliant run down the right flank found Bellingham in the box, who laid the ball back for Palmer. The substitute curled a precise low shot from 20 meters out, equalizing for England in the 73rd minute and sending the English fans into a frenzy.

Spain, however, managed to regain control. Oyarzabal, who had come on in the 68th minute, combined with Marc Cucurella on a swift counter-attack to score the winning goal, breaking English hearts.
In the closing moments, Spain’s goalkeeper Unai Simon saved a header from Declan Rice, and Dani Olmo blocked Marc Guehi’s follow-up on the goal line, ensuring Spain’s victory. Despite England’s late efforts, it was too little too late.

Spain was crowned champions after winning all seven games in the tournament, with the final whistle confirming their triumph.
