Nigeria’s Under-18 men’s handball team has emerged victorious in the International Handball Federation (IHF) Trophy Africa Men’s Continental Championship, triumphing over Guinea with a score of 38-26 in the finals held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The team, led by Coach Emeka Nnamani, displayed skill and resilience, winning the first half 21-14 and extending their lead in the second half.
Key contributions from players Christian Foloki and Azeez Sulaimon were instrumental, with Sulaimon being named Player of the Match. This win marks Nigeria’s successful defense of the title they claimed in Congo Brazzaville in 2022.
Coach Nnamani commended his team’s hard work and preparation, stating, “We prepared for this moment, and the boys took it with all seriousness.” He also expressed gratitude to the Handball Federation of Nigeria (HFN) for its support, especially amid logistical challenges.
With this victory, Nigeria has qualified to represent Africa in the IHF Trophy Intercontinental phase, set to take place early next year.
