Nigerian Super Eagles to Begin AFCON Qualifier Camp in Uyo on September 1

The Nigerian Super Eagles will commence their training camp in Uyo on September 1, ahead of their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Benin and Rwanda. According to a team official, the backroom staff will be in Uyo from the start of September, with most players expected to arrive promptly.

The three-time African champions are scheduled to face the Cheetahs of Benin Republic on September 7 at 5 p.m. at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo. Following this match, the team will travel to Rwanda for another AFCON qualifier against one of their 2026 World Cup qualifying rivals, just three days later.

Despite the upcoming matches, the Super Eagles are currently without a head coach. The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has yet to appoint a new coach after Finidi George’s departure in June. The NFF is reportedly considering two candidates: former Sweden coach Janne Andersson and Hervé Renard, who has extensive experience in African football, having managed the national teams of Zambia, Angola, Ivory Coast, and Morocco.
