Napoli’s Antonio Conte Confirms Victor Osimhen’s Exclusion from First Team Amid Transfer Uncertainty

Napoli manager Antonio Conte has confirmed that Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen will not be reintegrated into the club’s first team. This decision follows a turbulent transfer window in which Osimhen expressed a desire to leave Napoli, only for his anticipated move to Chelsea and other potential transfers to fall through.

Osimhen, who has been a top target for major European clubs including Chelsea, Arsenal, Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester United, and Liverpool, was expected to depart during the transfer window. Despite strong interest, a deal to Stamford Bridge failed, and negotiations with Saudi Arabian club Al-Ahli collapsed after Napoli demanded an additional €5 million on top of the agreed €80 million transfer fee.

As the 2024/25 season progresses, Conte has made it clear that Osimhen, along with other players excluded from the squad, will not be reintegrated. Conte expressed regret over the situation, acknowledging that resolving Osimhen’s transfer might have allowed for a different squad configuration. He praised Napoli for maintaining consistency despite the financial and operational challenges.

Conte emphasized the importance of coherence and rule adherence, stating, “The club proved consistent, so I praise them for this attitude.” He acknowledged the impact of the situation on the team’s overall composition and his own frustration with not completing the squad as initially planned.

With the transfer window closed in Europe, Osimhen faces an uncertain future at Napoli. The 25-year-old striker, once a highly sought-after talent, will have to wait until January for potential new opportunities. However, the Saudi Arabian transfer window is open until September 2, and the Turkish Super Lig window extends to September 13, providing Osimhen with a possible chance to secure a move before these deadlines.
