John Enoh, the Minister of Sports Development, has issued a stern warning against age cheating in the National Youth Games, emphasizing that the competition is strictly for athletes aged 15 and under. Enoh highlighted the importance of maintaining the integrity of the Games and urged participating states to adhere to the age requirements, promoting fair play and sportsmanship.
In a statement released on Thursday by Diana-Mary Nsan, Special Adviser (Media) to the minister, it was announced that Enoh officially opened the National Youth Games at the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba, Delta State. The minister underscored that the Games are designed to provide a fair and transparent platform for young athletes to showcase their talents.
“As the name of the Games suggests, this competition is exclusively for youth. We are dedicated to ensuring that it remains a venue for genuine talent development. The technical team has been directed to enforce the age restrictions strictly,” Enoh said. “Any form of age cheating will be met with decisive action.”
Delta State is hosting this year’s event, which promises to be a vibrant celebration of youth sports and talent. The National Youth Games have become a significant fixture in Nigeria’s sports calendar, serving as a critical platform for identifying and nurturing future sporting stars.
The opening ceremony is set to be a grand affair, with numerous dignitaries and sports stakeholders expected to attend and support the young athletes representing their states.
