Former Napoli midfielder Marek Hamsik has shared his thoughts on Victor Osimhen’s recent loan transfer from Napoli to Galatasaray, suggesting that the move might not be entirely driven by footballing reasons. Hamsik expressed regret over Osimhen’s departure from Diego Armando Maradona Stadium but acknowledged the complexities behind the transfer.
Osimhen, who joined Galatasaray on a season-long loan after unsuccessful attempts to transfer to Chelsea and Saudi Arabia’s Al Ahli, is reported to have also signed a contract extension with Napoli that runs until 2027. The loan deal does not include an option to buy, providing Osimhen a pathway back to regular first-team action after being sidelined by Napoli.
With Osimhen’s exit, Napoli secured Romelu Lukaku as his replacement. Hamsik commented on the situation, stating, “I’m sorry Osimhen left, but it’s probably not entirely related to football. I am not involved in this, and Napoli signed a valuable replacement. Lukaku is a top striker and can easily score 20 goals.”
Osimhen had signed an extension with Napoli last December, securing his future with a reported release clause of €130 million. Despite significant interest from European clubs like Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain, attempts to acquire him fell through. Additionally, Napoli’s negotiations with Al Ahli, which included a €80 million offer and a subsequent request for an extra €5 million, led to complications and frustration with the Saudi club.
Hamsik’s comments highlight the intricate and often opaque nature of high-profile football transfers, suggesting that factors beyond the pitch may have influenced Osimhen’s move to Galatasaray.
