D’Tigers Edge Closer to 2025 AfroBasket Qualification with Win Over Uganda

Nigeria’s men’s basketball team, D’Tigers, moved within one win of securing a spot at the 2025 AfroBasket Championship after a dominant 87-67 victory over Uganda in their second Group B qualifier in Tripoli on Saturday.

Fresh off a hard-fought 75-70 win against hosts Libya on Friday, the Nigerian side overcame a slow start to claim their second consecutive victory in the final qualifying window.

Uganda controlled the early stages of the game, winning the first two quarters 16-14 and 18-14 to take a 34-28 lead at halftime. However, D’Tigers responded with a commanding second-half display, taking the third quarter 27-25 before overwhelming their opponents 32-8 in the final period.

Caleb Agada delivered another standout performance, leading all scorers with 20 points while also adding seven assists and three steals. Team captain Ike Nwamu contributed 18 points, while Talib Zanna recorded a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.

D’Tigers will now face Group B leaders Cape Verde on Sunday in a crucial showdown. A win in that encounter would confirm Nigeria’s place at the 2025 AfroBasket Championship.
