Augustine Eguavoen has firmly rejected rumors suggesting he has stepped down from his position as caretaker coach of Nigeria’s Super Eagles. Upon returning to Nigeria after the team’s recent match in Rwanda, Eguavoen clarified, “Whatever people are reading out there is not correct; I am still in charge.”
Eguavoen, who also serves as the technical director of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), emphasized his continued role in managing the Super Eagles. “It is my responsibility to manage the Super Eagles at this moment,” he stated. He further explained that he plans to discuss future strategies with the NFF’s hierarchy after the current fixtures.
Eguavoen expressed frustration over the spread of misinformation, noting, “It’s quite unfortunate that people are spreading incorrect stories. In our current situation, we don’t need negative reports.”
Under Eguavoen’s leadership, the Super Eagles achieved a 3-0 victory against Benin and secured a goalless draw with Rwanda in Kigali. The team currently leads Group D in the 2025 AFCON qualification series with four points from two matches.
