Sokoto State Executive Council Approves Over N150 Billion for Infrastructure and Development

On Wednesday, the Sokoto State Executive Council sanctioned a supplementary budget of N119 billion for submission to the state House of Assembly. Additionally, the council approved N17.9 billion specifically for road reconstruction projects across the state.

Balarabe Kadadi, the Commissioner of Budget and Economic Planning, explained that the budget would include funds from NG-CARES, L-Press, Agile, Palliative fund from LG, Ecological, and Excess Crude Oil. He stated, “This proposal will be presented to the state House of Assembly for further approval.”

The council also allocated N11.8 billion for the reconstruction of the 40.7-kilometer Illela-Gada road and N3.2 billion for the Wurno-Huchi road. According to Bello Dabchadi, the State Commissioner of Information, these infrastructure projects fulfill commitments made by the Governor during his tours of local governments. He emphasized that these roads are vital for the state’s economic growth. Additionally, N2.9 billion was approved for the construction of the Romo bridge.

In a related development, Dr. Jabir Maihula, the Commissioner for Religious Affairs, announced that N156.7 million was allocated for the renovation of the oldest Islamiyya school in the state.
