Senator Ned Nwoko Champions Creation of Anioma State at Stakeholders Summit

Senator Ned Nwoko, representing Delta North senatorial district, has expressed his unwavering support for the establishment of Anioma State, driven by his deep commitment to advancing the welfare and progress of his constituents on a national level. This declaration was made during the Anioma stakeholders summit held over the weekend in Asaba, which saw participation from all nine local government areas within the senatorial district.

Nwoko emphasized that his advocacy for Anioma State is rooted in his dedication to the Anioma people. He refuted rumors about his purported gubernatorial aspirations, clarifying that his focus remains on the creation of Anioma State. He proposed that the inaugural governor of this new state should be from the Ndokwa nation, a region that has long faced marginalization despite its significant economic contributions, particularly from oil production. Nwoko highlighted that the Ndokwa region, which suffers from severe environmental degradation, deserves attention and representation.

Drawing a comparison to the transformation of Asaba from a small village to a bustling city after Delta State’s creation, Nwoko argued that the establishment of Anioma State would similarly spur development. He also noted the potential political benefits, including enhanced representation in the Senate, House of Representatives, and state assembly.

Supporting Nwoko’s position, HRM Benjamin Keagborekuzi I, the Dein of Agbor, affirmed that the quest for Anioma State is legitimate and should not be politicized. The monarch stressed the importance of unity in this endeavor and endorsed the call for its advancement.

Chief Dan Okenyi, chairman of the Local Organising Committee, explained that the summit was convened to unite Anioma stakeholders, build consensus, and strengthen the push for the Anioma State creation bill currently before the Senate. The summit aimed to produce significant resolutions to energize the legislative process and realize this long-standing aspiration.
