Troops of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF), operating under Sector 1 in Mora, successfully thwarted a coordinated attack by Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists on the military base in Darak, Cameroon.
The Chief Military Information Officer of the MNJTF, Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, disclosed in a statement on Thursday that the operation, which occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, resulted in the elimination of 10 terrorists.
The assault began at dawn, with the insurgents launching an attack from multiple directions. In response, the troops engaged in a fierce gunfight, swiftly neutralizing six of the attackers and forcing the remaining terrorists to flee, many of them sustaining gunshot wounds.
During the encounter, five soldiers were injured and are currently receiving medical attention.
In a follow-up operation, MNJTF forces ambushed the fleeing wounded terrorists along their regrouping route in Mazogo, a village between Zamba and Djibirilli. The ambush resulted in the elimination of four more insurgents and the recovery of assorted food items left behind by the group.
This brings the total number of terrorists neutralized to ten.
Lieutenant Colonel Osoba emphasized that the operation underscores MNJTF’s commitment to eradicating terrorist threats and ensuring regional security. “The decisive action demonstrates MNJTF’s unwavering commitment to defeating terrorists and safeguarding regional security,” he stated.
The MNJTF continues its efforts to dismantle terrorist networks and restore peace in the Lake Chad Basin region.
