Commuters traveling on the Keffi-Abuja expressway were left stranded as military officers conducted a stop-and-search operation on vehicles entering Nigeria’s capital. The unexpected blockade, established at Sani Abacha barracks before the popular AYA roundabout, caught many by surprise, leading to a gridlock that extended over 12 kilometers to the Nyanya Bridge.
The traffic jam affected numerous civil servants and traders residing in areas such as Nyanya, Karu, Maraba, and Masaka. After hours of standstill, many frustrated commuters were forced to return home.
This incident occurs just three days before the planned nationwide protest against economic hardship in Nigeria, scheduled to begin on August 1. The protest aims to highlight the rising cost of living and the economic challenges faced by many Nigerians.
