President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended his heartfelt condolences to the family of Professor Tom Adaba, as well as to the government and people of Kogi State, following the passing of the esteemed media icon and first Director-General of the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC).
In a condolence message signed by his spokesperson, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, the President praised Prof. Adaba’s unwavering dedication to media development, mentorship, community service, and philanthropy.
“The annals of Nigeria’s broadcast industry deregulation, communication scholarship, and the growth of media scholarship will be incomplete without a generous reference to Professor Adaba’s contributions,” the President stated.
A Legacy of Excellence in Broadcasting
President Tinubu highlighted Prof. Adaba’s pivotal role in shaping Nigeria’s broadcasting landscape, particularly his leadership in journalism, teaching, administration, and consultancy.
“From teaching and mentoring to administration and consultancy, Professor Adaba was a towering figure and an inspiration to many within Nigeria’s broadcasting circles and beyond,” he noted.
The President also recognized Prof. Adaba’s remarkable contributions as the first principal of the NTA Television College in Jos, an institution that has trained countless professionals in the television industry across Nigeria and other African countries.
Honoring a Broadcasting Icon
Praying for the repose of Professor Adaba’s soul, President Tinubu asked God Almighty to comfort his family, friends, and all who mourn his loss.
“May his legacies live on in the many professionals he trained, the scholarly books he authored, and the integrity he brought to the public offices he held,” the President added.

Professor Tom Adaba, a pioneer in Nigeria’s broadcasting industry, passed away on Saturday, February 22, 2025, at the age of 83. His life and work remain an enduring inspiration in Nigeria’s media and communications sector.
