President Bola Tinubu is currently leading the 18th meeting of the Federal Executive Council at the Aso Chambers in Abuja. This session marks the first gathering in six weeks, following the President’s recent diplomatic trips to Equatorial Guinea, China, and the United Kingdom.
Tinubu arrived at the chamber at 12:25 p.m. and is meeting with 21 out of his 47 cabinet members today. Among those present are Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr. George Akume, and National Security Adviser, Mr. Nuhu Ribadu. Key ministers attending include Mr. Wale Edun, Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy; Abubakar Kyari, Minister of Agriculture and Food Security; Abubakar Bagudu, Minister of Budget and Economic Planning; and others from various ministries.
Vice President Kashim Shettima is currently in New York, leading Nigeria’s delegation to this year’s United Nations General Assembly, which includes several cabinet members.
Before the meeting began, Secretary Akume led a moment of silence to honor the late Mrs. Salome Jankada, a former Minister of Women and Youth Development under former President Olusegun Obasanjo, who passed away on August 27, 2024. While the specific agenda for today’s meeting has not been disclosed, it is reported to include numerous memoranda related to various project approvals from different ministries.
