The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has issued a stern warning to governors who might attempt to meddle in the affairs of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State. Speaking at the PDP state congress in Port Harcourt on Saturday, Wike made it clear that he would fiercely defend the party’s structure in the state and would not tolerate any external interference.
“Let me assure all of you, as long as we live, no one will be able to wrest the control of the PDP from us in Rivers State,” Wike declared, addressing party members with fervor. He cautioned that any governor who tried to take over the PDP structure in Rivers State would face severe consequences. “I hear some governors talk about taking over our structure and handing it to someone else. I pity those governors because I will ignite political fires in their states.”
Wike’s remarks were particularly pointed toward Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, whom he singled out for special attention. The FCT Minister vowed to ensure that any governor who leaves their state to challenge his authority in Rivers State would have sleepless nights as a result. “When God has given you peace, and you say you don’t want it, then you must be prepared to face the consequences,” Wike warned ominously.
This latest development underscores the ongoing tension within the PDP and highlights Wike’s determination to maintain control over the party’s affairs in his home state. The minister’s bold statements are likely to stir up further political drama, particularly among governors who may be eyeing influence in Rivers State.
