President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended his congratulations to Senator Monday Okpebholo on his recent inauguration as the Governor of Edo State, emphasizing the importance of effective governance and improved living standards for Edo residents. In a message conveyed by Presidential Spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu highlighted the significance of Edo State returning to the All Progressives Congress (APC) after eight years under former Governor Godwin Obaseki.
President Tinubu urged Governor Okpebholo to foster democratic principles and support an independent legislative branch, essential for transparent governance. Reflecting on past challenges, Tinubu expressed concerns over the previous administration’s strained relationship with the legislature, which he stated hampered its effectiveness.
Commending the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for its conduct of the Edo election, Tinubu also encouraged the Commission to uphold similar standards in the upcoming Ondo election scheduled for November 16, 2024.
Senator Okpebholo’s victory in the September 21, 2024, election marks a new chapter for Edo State, and the President celebrated this democratic milestone with the people of Edo.
