The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has extended its warm wishes to Nigerian Muslims on the occasion of Eid-el Maulud, urging them to bolster their resolve for a national rebirth amidst the current economic hardships and escalating insecurity, which the party attributes to the “anti-people policies” of the All Progressives Congress (APC) administration.
In a statement issued on Sunday by Debo Ologunagba, the PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, the party expressed concern that many Nigerians are unable to celebrate the significant occasion of Eid-el Maulud with their loved ones due to economic difficulties. The PDP called on leaders to reflect deeply on their policies and decisions that have inflicted hardship and suffering on citizens.
The PDP reiterated its call for an immediate review of detrimental policies, including the recent increases in petroleum prices, taxes, and tariffs, which it argues have severely impacted Nigerians. The party also demanded an end to governmental extravagance and corruption, urging a shift in focus toward initiatives that directly benefit the welfare of the populace.
The PDP encouraged Nigerians to use the Eid-el Maulud celebration as a time to renew their faith in Allah and to extend compassion to one another, especially given the widespread misery and despair caused by poor governance. The party emphasized that Eid-el Maulud, commemorating the birth of the Holy Prophet Mohammed (SAW), serves as a pivotal moment for leaders and citizens alike to align their actions with the values exemplified by the Prophet.
Finally, the PDP called for calm and hope, urging Nigerians to come together in love and prayer, seeking divine intervention in the nation’s affairs during this period of celebration.
