Omosede Igbinedion, Daughter of Benin High Chief, Resigns from PDP Citing Lack of Equity and Justice

Ms. Omosede Igbinedion, daughter of prominent Benin High Chief Gabriel Igbinedion, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing concerns over equity, fairness, and justice within the party, particularly in Edo State.

In a letter dated August 11 and addressed to Mr. Lucky Edosomwan, Chairman of the PDP in Okada West Ward 1, Ovia North East Local Government Area, Igbinedion expressed her deep disappointment with the party’s treatment of its indigenous members. Despite raising concerns with both state and national leadership, she stated that the party continued to marginalize those who have been long-standing members.

“I am resigning from the PDP based on the principles of equity, fairness, and justice, that I hold too dearly, which no longer prevail within our party in the state,” Igbinedion wrote. She highlighted the lack of representation for indigenous PDP members on the Edo governorship ballot, questioning the party’s direction and purpose.

Reflecting on her commitment to the people of Ovia, whom she has represented in the past, Igbinedion emphasized that her loyalty to her constituents outweighs her personal or political affiliations. “My overriding interest and commitment to the people of Ovia, whom I hold so dearly and who have always stood by me, supersedes my personal interest as well as any other interest,” she stated.

Igbinedion, who served as a member of the House of Representatives for Ovia Federal Constituency from 2015 to 2019 under the PDP, concluded her letter by making her resignation effective immediately, as of August 11, 2024.
