NNPP Kano State Chapter Rejects Suspension of Governor Yusuf and Expulsion of Kwankwaso

Kano, Nigeria, July 9, 2024 — The Kano State chapter of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has denounced the suspension of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and the expulsion of the party’s leader and 2023 Presidential candidate, Rabi’u Kwankwaso, by a faction of the National Executive Committee (NEC). The state chapter labeled these actions as illegal and condemnable.

In a press briefing in Kano, the state Chairman of the NNPP, Alhaji Hashimu Suleiman Dungurawa, described the suspension as “laughable,” asserting that the actions were executed by expelled members of the party. Dungurawa accused these individuals of being sponsored by “outside forces.”

The factional NEC had affirmed the six-month suspension of Governor Yusuf and the expulsion of Senator Kwankwaso in a communiqué issued on Sunday following a meeting held on May 27. Dungurawa dismissed these resolutions as “unserious” and inconsequential to the party.

Dungurawa expressed concern over how a group of expelled members could suspend Governor Yusuf, the only NNPP Governor in the country, and expel Senator Kwankwaso, the party’s National Leader. He emphasized that the genuine leadership of the party, mandated by members across the country, would not be distracted by the actions of the sponsored group and remained focused on developing the NNPP to continue providing good governance to all Nigerians.

“NNPP as a party remains strong and more committed to wooing members across the country, despite the ill actions of outside forces,” Dungurawa stated.
