Kogi State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal Strikes Out Action Peoples Party’s Petition

The Kogi State governorship election petition tribunal, located in Abuja, has dismissed the petition filed by the Action Peoples Party (APP) challenging the victory of Mr. Ahmed Usman Ododo in the November 11, 2023 Governorship Election. The decision came after the petitioner’s counsel, Daniel Edeachi, Esq., withdrew the petition.

The withdrawal of the petition was uncontested by the respondents’ counsels, including Ibrahim Sanni Muhammed, SAN, representing Governor Usman Ododo, as well as counsels for the APC and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

In a ruling delivered on Tuesday, February 20, 2024, by the Chairman of the Tribunal, Hon. Justice Ado Yusuf Birnin-Kudu, the tribunal reviewed the affidavit of no objection filed by the respondents’ counsels and subsequently struck out the petition.

Meanwhile, the tribunal continues to hear the remaining three petitions related to the governorship election.
