The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, has pointed to internal conflicts within the party as the primary reason for its loss of Kano State in the 2023 elections. Represented by Kano State APC Chairman Abdullahi Abbas, Ganduje made this statement during the 8th and 9th APC Kano State House of Assembly Forum Dinner, held to honor prominent members of the party, including Hon. Kabiru Rurum, Hon. Hamisu Chidari, and others.
In his address, Ganduje urged party members in Kano to prioritize unity as the key to reclaiming power from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP)-led administration. He stressed that internal cohesion is essential for success in future elections.
“Unity is the only way out for us. It’s the only option we have to achieve our goals. God has already intervened in our situation, the current government is distorting the state, and we are just waiting for the right time. The next election will be like moving a hen away from its eggs,” Ganduje declared.
The Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Yusuf Atta, echoed Ganduje’s sentiments, calling for stronger collaboration and a unified purpose among party members. Atta expressed confidence in the party’s chances if an election were held today, while criticizing the current state administration for its governance.
“The issue of the election is not our problem. If it were to hold today, we have no reason to fear. We won the last one; it’s just that God didn’t give us the victory. Let us pray and stay united. The current leadership in the state is ineffective, and no one is satisfied with their governance,” Atta said.
Atta also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his commitment to Kano’s development, noting the allocation of 500 housing units to the state, compared to the usual 250 allotted to others.
The Forum Chairman, Abdul’azeez Gafasa, praised the honored members for their contributions and highlighted the importance of maintaining the unity achieved within the forum.
“Our leaders have worked tirelessly to bring us together, and we must continue to uplift one another,” Gafasa said.
The event was attended by several dignitaries, including the Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, who was represented by his Chief of Staff, Muhammad Ibn Abdallah, as well as other APC stalwarts at both the national and state levels.
The dinner served as a rallying call for the APC to consolidate efforts and address internal divisions as it prepares for future electoral battles in Kano State.
