In a recent confrontation between police and bandits in Katsina State, three residents were reportedly killed. The incident occurred over the weekend when bandits attacked Unguwar Batsaka, a community within Jibia Local Government Area, resulting in the deaths of three individuals and the abduction of several others.
Katsina Police Command spokesperson Abubakar Sadiq confirmed in a statement that police officers were dispatched to the area and successfully thwarted the bandit attack on Unguwar Batsaka, located in Jibia township. He reported that six kidnapped victims were rescued, though one victim succumbed to gunshot wounds sustained during the assault.
The thwarted attack took place around 11:25 p.m., following a distress call to the Jibia Police Division. A resident of Jibia, who wished to remain anonymous, shared that the assailants stormed the area around 11 p.m. on Sunday, firing indiscriminately and causing widespread panic.
“The bandits were numerous, moving from house to house and shooting wildly. Many people, including children, were injured, and several others were taken away,” the source revealed. The exact number of individuals abducted in Unguwar Batsaka remained unclear as of the following morning.
In a related incident on Friday, armed bandits on motorcycles attacked the village of Mai Bakkon Dan Auta in Sabuwa Local Government Area, resulting in the deaths of two people and the abduction of 13 residents. Among the deceased was a member of the Katsina Community Watch Corps. One of those abducted was Alhaji Imamu, the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Mai Bakko ward. As of this report, their whereabouts remain unknown.
