Pastor Enoch Adeboye Apologizes for Tithing Remarks at RCCG Youth Convention

Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has publicly apologized for his previous statement suggesting that believers who do not pay tithes would not enter heaven. During the ongoing annual national youth convention at RCCG Redemption City, he clarified his position, stating, “I will apologize for making a mistake in saying that if you don’t pay tithe, you will not be making it to heaven. That is wrong.”

Emphasizing biblical teachings, Adeboye noted that the scripture calls for peace with all men and holiness as prerequisites for seeing God. He remarked, “It is possible to be right and wrong at the same time,” citing scientific advancements in understanding light as an analogy.

Sharing a personal experience from a convention of Kenneth E. Hagin’s ministry in Tulsa, he recounted a man who pledged to give more than the collective contributions of attendees toward building the Rhema Bible College. This man, who started his business with $500, promised God not to give Him less than 10 percent, ultimately achieving a turnover of $50 million five years later. This inspired Adeboye to give generously towards God’s work.

He emphasized the importance of fervent praise, likening it to David’s exuberance in worship, even when faced with mockery. “Your giving must be of the violent type,” he asserted, highlighting King Solomon’s extensive offerings to God, which resulted in peace and prosperity during his reign. Adeboye urged believers to maintain a passionate approach to worship and giving, encouraging them to reflect on their devotion as they grow in faith.
