Nigerian Students Announce Nationwide Protest Against Fuel Price Hike and NNPC DG

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has announced a major protest set to commence on September 15, 2024, aimed at shutting down all major cities in Nigeria. This action is a direct response to the recent increase in fuel prices and dissatisfaction with the performance of the NNPC Director General, Mele Kyari.

In a notice signed by Okunomo Henry Adewumi, the President of the Senate (NANS), the student union has demanded an immediate reversal of the fuel price hike and the removal of Kyari from his position. The notice emphasizes that the protest will be peaceful and lawful, despite its large scale.

The statement details the students’ frustration with the continuous rise in fuel prices, which they believe has caused significant hardship to the populace. They urge Nigerian students nationwide to participate in the protest, expressing determination to advocate for improved conditions for both students and the broader community.

The notice also calls on authorities to ensure public order during the planned shutdown, reaffirming the students’ commitment to a non-violent demonstration.
