Nigeria Advances EU Cooperation in Green Investment and Renewable Energy

Nigeria is making strides in enhancing cooperation with the European Union on local capacity building, green industrial investment, and comprehensive feasibility studies on the nation’s wind corridors and other renewable energy sources. This development was announced by the Special Presidential Envoy on Climate Action (SPEC), Ajuri Ngelale, on Thursday at the State House in Abuja following his meeting with the EU’s Head of Cooperation in Nigeria, Mr. Massimo DeLuca, and his team.

Ngelale stated, “We made progress in advancing Nigeria’s pursuit of deepened EU-Nigeria cooperation in the promotion of green industrial investment, local capacity building, and extensive feasibility study on Nigeria’s wind corridors and other important renewable energy sources.”

In another meeting, Ngelale explored opportunities in Nigeria’s value chain localization and the intersection of the healthcare industry with renewable energy technologies. He assessed these opportunities alongside decorated Belgian microbiologist Mrs. Heidi Larson and Professor Peter Piot, renowned for discovering the Ebola Virus in 1976.

“I welcomed Mrs. Heidi Larson and Sir (Prof) Peter Piot, a decorated Belgian microbiologist who helped discover the Ebola virus in 1976 and has mentored many public administrators around the world. We assessed opportunities in Nigeria’s value chain localization drive and the industrial nexus between the healthcare industry and renewable energy technologies,” Ngelale disclosed.

Addressing Nigeria’s climate action initiatives, Ngelale also spoke to a network of people-centered Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) about the country’s green industrial activities. He highlighted these efforts during the launch of Care Nigeria’s Country Strategy for 2024-2030.

“I shed light on Nigeria’s climate action and green industrial activities with a strategic network of people-centered NGOs at the launch of Care Nigeria’s Country Strategy, 2024-2030,” Ngelale stated.
