Tinubu: Nigeria Aims to Lead Africa in Tech Advancements

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of Nigeria has announced the country’s commitment to spearheading digital technology innovations across Africa. During a meeting with a delegation from Meta Platforms Incorporated, led by Sir Nick Clegg, Tinubu emphasized Nigeria’s readiness to embrace technological advancements and harness opportunities in information and communications technology (ICT) to empower small businesses and drive economic growth.

Tinubu highlighted the significance of Nigeria’s youth population, stressing the importance of preparing them for the AI-enabled future and integrating them into the global economy through initiatives like the 3MTT program, which aims to train three million youths in digital technology and essential skills.

With a focus on collaboration and mutual benefit, Tinubu expressed Nigeria’s openness to cooperation on technological advancements, emphasizing the value of data for national development. He underscored the role of technology in fostering a conducive environment for small businesses and promoting mutual interests.

Sir Clegg commended Tinubu for facilitating Meta’s investment in Nigeria through an executive order, particularly enabling the landing of a Meta-backed deep-sea cable, signaling a significant step toward enhancing the country’s digital infrastructure.
