SENATE GREENLIGHTS AMINU MAIDA AS EXECUTIVE VICE CHAIRMAN OF NCC

The Senate has given its approval for the appointment of Dr. Aminu Maida as the Executive Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC). This decision followed the presentation of the report by Sen. Bilbis Ikra (APC-Zamfara), the chairman of the Committee on Communication, which was subsequently endorsed by the Committee of the Whole on Thursday.

During the report presentation, Sen. Ikra highlighted President Bola Tinubu’s endorsement of Maida’s confirmation as the NCC Chairman, urging the Senate to consider this plea. He emphasized that the request was in line with the Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC) Establishment Act, 2003, Section 8 (1).

Sen. Ikra assured the Senate that Maida had undergone thorough vetting by the committee, obtaining all required security clearances, necessary training, work experience, competence, and regulatory expertise essential for ensuring the success of the NCC. In light of these qualifications, he appealed to the Senate to ratify the appointment.

As a result of Sen. Ikra’s presentation, the Senate granted approval for Aminu Maida’s appointment as the Executive Vice Chairman of the NCC.
